Prompting on Hard Mode: The Prompt-to-Prompt Trick

People keep hunting for the perfect prompt template. Not I!

Instead, I feed the model Swyx and Ben Hylak’s giant Latent Space article and let it design the template for me. It is like handing a chef your favorite cookbook and saying, “Surprise me.”

Here is the entire playbook:

  1. Pick the task.
Clean TypeScript, a partnership email, or a tricky ClickHouse query. The clearer the task, the better the result.

  2. Paste the Latent Space post in full.
Yes, all five thousand words. It teaches the model about context overload, style control, and autonomous reasoning. Giving the article to the model is like hiring a tutor on the spot.

  3. Ask one meta question.
“Using everything above, craft the single best prompt to accomplish <my task>.”
The model studies the article, distills its tactics, and writes a custom prompt that looks nothing like the tired “You are an expert” boilerplate.

  4. Open a fresh chat, paste the generated prompt, and run it.
A clean thread means no leftover baggage. Attach any code or data it requests, hit send, then wait.

Why it works

  • The article shows the model the difference between chatty fluff and report-grade answers.

  • Writing a prompt first forces planning before generation.

  • A new chat prevents earlier context from muddying the chain of thought.

Proof

Next time you are stuck tinkering with wording, stop. Give the model the manual, let it write the recipe then follow it. The trick feels like magic, but it is just common sense.
